WHAT ARE THE CONVENTIONS LIKE IN Taiwan

 

    So you like to go to conventions but dont want to deal with the super massive city crowds and the big ticket prices that is always sold out and hate all the drama and gate keeping that goes with the shows....will come over to Taiwan!  

    The first thing when none chinese speakers otaku ask is I CANT FIND ANY SHOWS TO GO TO WHERE DO YOU COSPLAY!??!.....will in some way it took me a while to find out also.  Just so happen one day on the MRT i saw a large sign at Yuansan that said FF## had a semi lewd art on the poster i be like wtf is this.  I went to the show and was mind blown.  lol.  from that point on i went to find every show i can go to.  Almost every month for the whole year there will be at least couple shows or events per month.  Thats how crazy it is ...and its only for taipei.  Other cities in taiwan also will have shows but not as often and the best stuff is always in Taipei.

    From what i gathered its broken down in to these groups. i will just use CAP letters cause the name for the show some of you might think of loli con shit.

1-PF - Show that is more or less family friendly - still lots of toys and models and otaku stuff a bit of BL and Hentai but overall great to catch or do cosplay.  all ages are welcome

2-FF - more lewd or 18+ cosplayers at this show...still are open to all ages.  Taiwan for some reason has all the 19 plus stuff in the open.  Cosplayer tons load also.

3- CWT - more on the BL and LGBT and furry fans....most of the crowds are female and it is held mostly at NTU.  big show and cosplayers .

4-Gamer shows- more like E3 and cosplayer are more paid to be there..however some fan based cosplayer are in the show - tons of freebies as mobile game is king and every company push you to download and play..so make sure you clear or phone or have a burner social account.

5-toy flea markets - held mostly at taipei city mall.  cosplayers and toy freaks..i tend to find prices are high for the stuff.

6-ARTIST SHOWCASE- every show mention above has a large artist section.  however this show is focused just on them.  if you are looking for custom art or dojin this is the place to go.  again cosplayer everywhere.

7-AGA or Red Expo - these are 18 only shows so for the lewd cosplayers and IG models and AV fans these are the shows for you.  Good place to get your special merch from the girls or if you want a massage or one on one chats in person.  Japan will also fly over their top cosplayers and IG models and AV idols or busty models for these events.

TICKETS-  cost for most cosplay events are about $150 to $400 ntd....prices been up and down due to end of covid and influx of visitors.  tickets are either sold daily or multi day package or special packages if you order from 711 or family mart .  18 plus shows your looking at 500 to 2k plus.  Flea markets are always free.

overall feel will your will have crowds and rudeness.  in the summer make sure you bring water and winter bring rain gear.  Photo gangbang everywhere - more skin showing on a cosplayer more photo crowd she will get. Also TONS OF FEM BOYS...surprisingly if you are a femboy cosplayer or crossplayers and get tons of flake in the WEST i would suggest you move to Taiwan.  its is perfectly normal and damn they are good at it.  Tons of underage cosplayers so do becareful when you take photos.

if you go to each show you will notice that its the same vendors.  so look around and see if you find something you like and buy.  i normally dont buy much however tons of fans line up to get all the exclusives from the artists.  i am thinking some of the local dojins are not on line.

Booth cosplayers are great and if your oshi is there you should get at least something...some i come to be good friends with and i know how hard they do to make the stuff.  most do get tons of fan boys lined up so...have to wait a while.  if you dont want to wait just stay till the afternoon when everyone come out to cosplay shoot you can get selfies for free and some small chats.

rules- Always ask first before taking photo.  Make sure you have your hand stamped going in and out of the show.  Dont yell at people or cause a fight...people are generally cool with everything and in return you should do the same.  Go in groups are more fun.  Dont eat the food at the show...cheaper if you go to eat after the show somewhere else.
